Triple Creek Winery Bottles of Red

Tucked away down some old backroad you will find Triple Creek Winery, located in Cordova, MD.  Considering it was a rare WARM, sunny fall day, we figured what better way to enjoy it then by sipping wine outside. We chose Triple Creek because it is dog friendly, and by now you have probably realized our furbabies influence our decisions. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Terp, a Chesapeake Bay retriever, who is featured on the label of the Chesapeake Reserve. The tasting room is a small barn, with wine barrels in place of tables. There are also picnic tables outside, backing right up to the vines. We were the first customers of the day, and received a friendly greeting from Terri, the wife of one of “the boys.” She immediately explained that they recently acquired Clovelly Vineyards, which meant even more wine for us! Let’s get to pouring.

For our tasting of 7 wines, we opted for 2 whites and Terri’s choice of 5 reds. You can choose any of their wines for your tasting, but we are indecisive. Terri herself is a red drinker, so we trusted her opinion. During our first pour of Traminette, Terri started telling us about the 4 boys that got this place off the ground. They started making wine in 2012, and opened their doors in 2013. It wasn’t until June 2014 that they celebrated their grand opening. It truly is a family business, and you can feel the bond that this family has. You will notice a halo over the T in Triple Creek, which is in honor of Taylor Spies, the oldest brother who passed away in 2012.  You can feel the emotion in Terri’s voice as she talks about it.

Triple Creek Winery and Clovelly Wines

As she continued our tasting, her story about the winery continued.  My favorite story came with the No Bull Red. The label features a blue heeler, Gibby, and bull staring eye to eye. Long story short, the bull was attacking Taylor Senior, better known as Pop (father of the boys!), and Gibby came to his rescue. Pop sustained a number of injuries, but Gibby saved his life. From that point on, Gibby never left the Pop’s side. Dogs are awesome. Oh and the wine’s not bad either. This is an easy drinking, fruit forward red blend that would be a perfect party-pleaser.

If you happen to stop by the winery, make sure you ask the story of the Chesapeake Reserve. Reminder: This label features Terp, and if you look closely, you will notice it is a playing card. I’m not going spoil the fun by ruining all the stories, so I’ll let you find this one out on your own. Plus, Terri tells the story a whole lot better than me. All I will say is the lesson from this wine label is one that we all could learn from.

Triple Creek Winery Vines

We were so absorbed in the stories that the time (and wine!) flew by. I also think there is a good chance that we exceeded our 7 tastings. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and the stories that came with them. Overall, we had a tendency to prefer the taste of the Clovelly wines, and ended up purchasing a bottle of the Chambourcin and the 2015 Devil’s Reach. We are excited to see what comes next for this family and Triple Creek Winery, especially with their recent acquisition of Clovelly. Since it’s just a few miles off route 50, there is a good chance we might stop by again to see what new stories Terri has to tell.

  1. There is visibly a lot to know about this. I think you made certain nice points in features also.

  2. A lot of of the things you point out is supprisingly precise and it makes me wonder why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. Your article really did turn the light on for me as far as this specific topic goes. However there is actually just one issue I am not necessarily too comfy with so while I attempt to reconcile that with the central idea of the issue, let me observe exactly what all the rest of your visitors have to say.Nicely done.
